JDM
Originally called JD Management, the name was shortened around ten years later to JDM, (Jason Dale Management).
A Personal Profile
Having been turned on to music in 1978, firstly by buying a record by T REX called HOT LOVE (did not even own a record player at the time), found a real passion for all sorts of music. Constantly working with local bands and running Radio broadcasts throughout the school. Eventually formed a company and went on to work with major artists, running a fan club and selling merchandise. I decided to accept an offer to work as a Tour Manager. I soon realised that these jobs where never advertised. During the next few years, I toured all over Europe, USA, South Africa and the Middle East. The experience gained was invaluable.
As a Management/Agency, we went on to book more than two thousand artists around the world, from artists just starting out on their career to artists with number one records, soap stars, as well as national DJ's. Again I realised you could not get this work at a job centre.
Once Prodigal Records was formed, and a consultancy business was in place, very quickly in the nineties other things developed including Promobeats, a DJ promotion service. Many television appearances also came my way by accident, including eight appearances on James Whale Live, (Central Television), three appearances on The Big Breakfast (Channel 4)), made a thirty minute documentary called The Tuesday Special, (Carlton Television), about how anyone could become a pop star with little or no talent. This programme was nominated for the best Regional television programme. Two thirty minute episodes for The Cook Report, (Carlton Television), an attempt to show the working on how a new record is released and charted using immoral if not illegal practices. Also various Cable Television appearances, and more than fifty radio appearances were also made during this period reviewing new material with guest artists and promoting music in general.
This decade also included consultancy work with Mecca Leisure, First Leisure and within the legal profession including issues about a bands' name being stolen, applications for an entertainment licence and also covert filming for various programmes. Not quite SAS but very interesting.
With a new decade well under way, and a new publishing partner, a company based in Knutsford, VW Productions the enthusiasm is as strong today as on that day in 1971, when I first saw Marc Bolan performing HOT LOVE. I have now amassed a record collection of around twenty five thousand titles and still rate HOT LOVE as one of the best songs I have ever heard, and thank Marc Bolan for lighting a fire in me.
